Lakeland motorcyclist, 20, dies in Manatee crash

MANATEE — A 20-year-old Lakeland man died in a motorcycle crash Saturday in Manatee County.

Adam Bookhamer died at 4:55 p.m. at the intersection of U.S. 301 and Sally Lee Drive, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

A 1985 Jeep with attached trailer hauling a boat was traveling west on Sally Lee Drive, also known as 30th Avenue East, when it reportedly attempted to turn left onto U.S. 301 and crossed the path of a 2006 Buell XB motorcycle.

Bookhamer braked but could not avoid the collision. He died at the scene.

The driver of the Jeep was a 64-year-old Ellenton man. Charges are pending, according to the report.
