— An early morning shooting Saturday left a Sarasota man hospitalized in critical condition, according to Palmetto police.

The 26-year-old victim was a passenger in a car being driven westbound on Haben Boulevard around 2:45 a.m., according to a police report.

The other occupants of the car reportedly told investigators a black, newer-model pickup truck with chrome trim and custom chrome rims pulled up beside them as they drove and began firing into their vehicle.

The truck passed them and was last seen traveling north on U.S. 41, then west on Seventh Street West, according to police.

The victim was driven to Manatee Memorial Hospital, where he was in critical condition, according to the report.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Palmetto Police Department at 941-721-2000 or Manatee County Crime Stoppers at 1-866-634-8477. Callers may remain anonymous and may be eligible for a reward.
