Noah Williams and Fred Russo combined on a two-hitter Thursday night as the Palmetto baseball team claimed a 6-0 victory over visiting Southeast.

Williams, the starter, went five innings, allowing the two hits while striking out four. Russo walked one and struck out four in two hitless innings.

Jake Mersch led the offense for the Tigers (7-7) by going 2-for-4 with two runs scored, two RBIs and a stolen base. Tomas Martinez scored twice and stole two bases.

OUT-OF-DOOR ACADEMY 6, SAINT STEPHEN'S 5 -- The Falcons scored all five runs in the first inning against the Thunder, but after Austin Hoppe came in for ODA, the scoring stopped.

Hoppe lasted six innings after taking the hill in relief in the second frame to earn the win, allowing no runs on just one hit with five strikeouts as the host Thunder came back to defeat Saint Stephen's in a district game.

Jeremy Luna was 3-3 for ODA (8-3, 3-1) with three RBIs and two runs scored, including the game-winner. Jake Romine was 2-4 for the Thunder.

BAYSHORE 10, ARCADIA DESOTO 4 -- Julian Valdivia pitched a complete game and went 4-for-4 with a pair of RBIs to carry the visiting Bruins (7-7) to their fifth consecutive victory.

Chase Richardson went 3-for-4 with four RBIs, and Jason Clayton had two hits for Bayshore. Valdivia allowed seven hits and three earned runs while striking out a pair of batters.

BRADEN RIVER 12, LEMON BAY 2 -- Brian Dillingham was 3-3 with three runs, Jordan Guerrero had a three-run homer in his only at-bat to activate the mercy rule and the host Pirates defeated the Manta Rays.

Brock Younce earned the win for Braden River (9-5), going four innings and allowing two runs on three hits with no strikeouts.

BRADENTON CHRISTIAN 10, ST. PETERSBURG KESWICK CHRISTIAN 0 -- Luke Darnell was strong in all aspects of the game, tossing a three-hit shutout against the Crusaders (4-10) to lead the Panthers to a home rout.

Darnell was hot at the plate as well, going 3-for-3 with a double and five RBIs.

Hunter McGarry added three hits, and David Hinkel had two hits for Bradenton Christian (9-5).

Juco baseball

HILLSBOROUGH COMMUNITY COLLEGE 5, STATE COLLEGE OF FLORIDA 4 -- The Hawks scored twice in the bottom of the eighth inning to get past the Manatees (19-9, 5-4 Suncoast Conference).

Ryan Valdes went 2-for-4 with a home run and a triple and two runs scored to lead the SCF offense. Sean Trent scored the other two runs for the Manatees, and Manatee High product Chase Sandberg added two hits.

Scott Williams took the loss, allowing an unearned run and a hit in one inning of relief. Starter Reggie McClain surrendered three earned runs and nine hits, while striking out seven, in seven innings.


SOUTHEAST 16, ST. PETERSBURG GIBBS 0 (3) -- Rebecca Boesen and Megan Stevens combined on a two-hitter, and Boesen hit an inside-the-park home run and drove in four runs as the visiting Seminoles improved to 7-6, 3-3 in Class 5A-District 10.

Susan Jibson and Emma Rissman each had two RBIs for Southeast.

BRADEN RIVER 4, SARASOTA 3 (9) -- Myah Moy knocked in Sarah Crawford with the winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning as the Pirates improved to 4-2 in Class 7A-District 10.

Lexi Phelps went the distance on the mound for Braden River, striking out five.

SARASOTA CHRISTIAN 11, BRADENTON CHRISTIAN 0  (5) -- The host Panthers fell to 6-6 with the defeat.

Boys tennis

VENICE 5, SAINT STEPHEN'S  2 -- Zach Bessette won a singles match and teamed with Graham Conron for a doubles victory, but the visiting Falcons fell.

OUT-OF-DOOR ACADEMY 6, ENGLEWOOD LEMON BAY 1 -- Vaughn Garcia, Jose Juncosa, Marius Bschorer and Edward Hamburger won singles matches in straight sets to carry the Thunder (7-2) past the Manta Rays (1-8).

Juncosa had a hand in a doubles victory, and Hamburger and Bschorer teamed up for another doubles win for ODA.

Girls tennis

BAYSHORE 4, BRADEN RIVER 3 -- The Bruins' Savanna Gray and Ava Schultz earned singles victories, then teamed up to take a doubles match as Bayshore defeated the host Pirates in the final match of the regular season for both teams.

Cailin Finnegan and Haley Donahue also paired for a doubles win for the Bruins (4-6).

Natalie Marshall, Daniela Ojeda and Payton Diss had singles victories for Braden River (5-6).

VENICE 4, SAINT STEPHEN'S  3 -- Danning Feng, Liyin Xu and Qin Qin Liu won singles matches for the visiting Falcons in a losing effort.

Boys lacrosse

CARDINAL MOONEY 15, OUT-OF-DOOR ACADEMY 3 -- Max Mann scored twoice and Max Provost scored the other goal as the Thunder fell to the host Cougars.

Girls lacrosse

OUT-OF-DOOR ACADEMY 14, CARDINAL MOONEY JV 4 -- Lexi Meyers and Tess Siciliano each had three goals, and Adelaide Mahler and Jordan Towsley had two apiece as the host Thunder defeated the Cougars junior varsity.

Abby Lagasse, Lexi Murphy, Tyler Latta and Gwynn Morse also scored for ODA.

JV softball

PALMETTO 14, RIVERVIEW 1 -- Jazmin Reyes drove in five, while Julia Pritchard and Lacey Brasfield each had three RBIs for the Tigers as they defeated the host Rams.
