400-pound Manatee man subdued by stun gun after tussle with deputies

March 18, 2014

MANATEE — The physical size of a man posed problems for law enforcement personnel investigating a fight Monday.

Drew Dalton Cannon, 6-foot-2, and 400 pounds, was hit with a stun gun before being arrested on a charge of resisting arrest, according to a Manatee County Sheriff’s Office report.

Cannon was in front of a residence in the 3500 block of 19th Street Court East at 11:23 p.m. Monday blocking deputies from going inside to speak to occupants, including two juveniles, according to the sheriff's office.

After asking Cannon to move twice, the deputies tried to move him and he began to thrash violently, according to the report.

One deputy used a stun gun to subdue Cannon, who was treated at the scene for injuries.

Cannon was released from the Manatee County jail Tuesday after posting a $500 bond, according to the sheriff’s office website.
