MANATEE -- A 46-year-old man early Monday was charged with beating his roommate during an argument over a woman, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.

About 4:30 a.m., deputies responded to a mobile home in the 3700 block of 14th Street West, according to a news release.

Juan R. Alfaro-Conde and his 65-year-old roommate were arguing over a woman who was visiting, when Alfaro-Conde began beating the older man, according to the report.

The victim briefly lost consciousness. When he woke up, he called law enforcement, the sheriff's office said.

Alfaro-Conde denied any involvement, but he was arrested and charged with aggravated battery on a person over 65. He is being held without bond at the Manatee County jail.

The victim was taken to Manatee Memorial Hospital suffering from a possibly broken jaw and broken ribs.
