Saffold to return to Rams

St. Louis, MO ( - Free agent offensive lineman Rodger Saffold is heading back to the St. Louis Rams.

Two days after having an agreement in place with the Oakland Raiders that was voided by a failed physical, the four-year veteran re-signed a five-year contract with his original team that the Rams officially announced Thursday.

Saffold and the Raiders had came to terms on a reported five-year, $42.5 million pact on Tuesday's first day of free agency, but Oakland nullified the deal due to concerns over his shoulder.

The Rams quickly swooped back in to retain the 25-year-old, who has started 44 games at three different positions on the offensive line since joining St. Louis in 2010 as a second-round draft pick.

According to the St. Louis' Post-Dispatch, Saffold's new deal with the Rams will be for approximately $31 million.

Saffold had served as St. Louis' left tackle before being moved to the right side prior to last season. He was later switched to right guard, where he's expected to remain for the upcoming campaign.
