Sheriff's employee wins honor
MANATEE -- Clara Bejarano has been named the Manatee County Sheriff's Office Employee of the Month.
Last Christmas holiday, Bejarano was vacationing with her family in Miami at a popular restaurant. After the group at the next table left, she noticed a wallet on the floor.
Bejarano found the man who had been sitting there, but it was not his wallet nor anyone who he was with at the table.
She checked the contents of the wallet and found $500 cash, credit cards and driver license of a man from New Jersey, but no contact information other than the address. Once she was sure the man was no longer in the restaurant, she coordinatedwith her brother who lives in New York to return the wallet.
"For the honesty and diligence shown by her and her family members to return the property to the owner, Clara Bejarano was awarded Employee of the Month," said Sheriff Brad Steube.
