MANATEE -- Southeastern Guide Dogs Inc. and its Paws for Patriots program will receive a nice boost Wednesday.

That's when the Junior League of Manatee County and Junior League of Sarasota will present them with a $10,883 check.

The event is 11 a.m. Wednesday at Southeastern's Palmetto campus.

The nonprofit was picked as a beneficiary partner at last November's Legacy of Valor Celebration Luncheon by the two Junior Leagues in conjunction with the Patterson Foundation's campaign to honor veterans and their families in Southwest Florida.

"We are proud to assist our returning soldiers as they come home," said Marjorie Singer, Southeastern Guide Dogs' donor relations manager. "These funds will help us continue (our) important work."

Southeastern has been providing guide dogs to people with visual impairment since 1982. The Paws for Patriots program was developed to serve active-duty soldiers and retired servicemen and women who are visually impaired, may be suffering from post-traumatic stress or are healing in military hospitals.
