USF expected to introduce UCLA's Mark Harlan as athletic director

March 10, 2014

TAMPA -- The University of South Florida is expected to introduce its new athletic director Monday.

According to the Tampa Bay Times, the job is going to 44-year-old Mark Harlan, UCLA's senior associate athletic director.

Harlan will replace Doug Woolard, who announced his retirement in January after 10 years. He'll take over an athletic program whose football and men's basketball teams have slipped dramatically.

The Times said Harlan's strength appears to be fundraising and marketing. Harlan told the Los Angeles Times in October that the Bruins athletic program was coming off a record year in donations.

Harlan has also served in athletics at Northern Colorado and San Jose State and his alma mater, the University of Arizona.
