FHP looking for hit-and-run driver in East Manatee

EAST MANATEE -- Authorities are looking for a driver who they say hit another vehicle after making an improper left turn Saturday afternoon, then left the scene.

Investigators with the Florida Highway Patrol say the driver of what is described as a black Honda Civic was heading northbound on 147th Street East approaching Mill Run East at around 2 p.m. He made an improper left turn, according to the FHP's report, and struck the front of a 2002 Pontiac Sunfire that was stopped.

The unidentified driver then left the scene and was last seen heading westbound on Mill Run East, the report states.

The driver was described as a teenager with dirty blonde hair. His car would have damage on either its front or rear left tire, the FHP said, as broken hubcap pieces were found at the scene.

No license plate number was observed, according the report. Investigators were searching nearby residential areas for the driver or vehicle.

The Sunfire's driver, a 23-year-old Bradenton man, was unhurt.

Anyone who may have witnessed the crash or have information about the driver or his location is asked to contact the FHP at 239-938-1800.
