Local roundup | Manatee gets tight district baseball win

Jake Dominick drove in Max Moneuse for the go-ahead run in the fourth inning, Weston Davis threw a complete-game three-hitter, and Manatee (5-3, 3-1 Class 8A-District 8) beat Palm Harbor University 2-1 on Friday night at G.T. Bray park in a battle of Hurricanes.

Davis allowed one unearned run and struck out four.

BRADENTON CHRISTIAN 14, TAMPA BAYSHORE CHRISTIAN 4 -- The host Panthers improved to 6-4 with a non-district victory on Friday.

BCS was led by Hunter McGarry (3-for-4, three RBIs), Tyler Lyke (2-for-4, RBI) and David Hinkel (2-for-3, RBI). The Panthers face North Port Imagine School on Monday in a district game. They are tied atop the standings with a 2-1 mark.

SAINT STEPHEN'S 4, ST. PETERSBURG KESWICK CHRISTIAN 1 -- Nick Rodhouse fired a five-hitter, allowing only an unearned run, to lift the host Falcons (6-4) past the Crusaders.

Andrew Csubak and Caleb Eyre each had two hits, and Csubak drove in a pair of runs for Saint Stephen's. Jake Westberry doubled and had an RBI.

JV -- Colton Zimring pitched 5 1/3 innings, allowing no earned runs and one hit while striking out five, to lead the Lakewood Ranch junior varsity (7-1-1) to a 6-2 victory over host Sarasota. Rhett Rampinelli had three hits, and Trevor Losada and Will Robertson had two apiece.

OUT-OF-DOOR ACADEMY 8, FORT MYERS GATEWAY CHARTER 1 -- Jimmy Kuebler fired a no-hitter as the host Thunder improved to 4-3.

Juco baseball

UNIVERSITY OF TAMPA JV 4, STATE COLLEGE OF FLORIDA 3 -- The Spartans scored two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to sneak past the visiting Manatees (14-5).

Manatee product Tyler Souris took the loss, and former Hurricane Trevor Beeman went 2-for-5 with an RBI. Ryan Valdes added three hits, and Scott Williams drove in a run for SCF.


BAYSHORE 14, PORT CHARLOTTE 1 -- Miriam Schmoll was on fire in all aspects, hitting a three-run homer and striking out eight on the mound to lead the Bruins past the Tarpons at the North Port softball tournament.

Kristin Staley was 4-for-5 and JoJo Muldoon was 3-for-5 for Bayshore (10-0).

The Bruins have two games scheduled for Saturday. They will play tourney host North Port at 11:30 a.m. and will take on the Community School of Naples at 4:30 p.m.

Girls lacrosse

SAINT STEPHEN'S 13, CARDINAL MOONEY 3 --Baylee Barker scored five goals to carry the host Falcons (3-0, 3-0 District 16) past the Cougars.

Emily Hiebner and Katie Pierce had three goals apiece for Saint Stephen's. Grace Barnes and Kendall Miller also scored, and goalie Kelsey Leskinen had eight saves.
