Florida needs statewide standards on right turns at red-light camera intersections

In all the articles I have read regarding the red-light camera issue, statistics prove the reduction of accidents where the cameras are used.

This is good, but I was disappointed there hasn't been much discussion on the red-light right-turn issue.

I read in a news article that the Mark Wandall Act, which standardized the use of RLC's across Florida in 2010, specifies officers should not ticket drivers who make rolling right turns in a "careful and prudent" manner.

I would think this could be a big point for discussion. I was surprised to learn each law enforcement agency sets a threshold to receive right-turn violations. That is not good, because rolling stops will not always be at the same speed.

Is it fair to ticket a driver doing one to five miles per hour turning speed while another driver in a different location makes the turn at 10 to 15 miles per hour but is not ticketed?

Laws and rules should be applied at least statewide.

While writing this letter, I have had thoughts about freeway entrances and how dangerous they are sometimes. Is there much difference between a certain speed of a red-light rolling stop and having someone entering a freeway coming at you when you can't move to another lane because of oncoming cars?

Personally, I think it is more safe when making a "careful and prudent" rolling right turn from a red light.
