UNIVERSITY PARK -- Upscale cosmetics store Sephora will be coming to the new Mall at University Town Center.

Sephora will be the latest retailer in the 880,000-square-foot mall expected to open Oct. 16 on the corner of Cattlemen Road and University Parkway, building permits reveal.

Sephora was founded in 1970 in France by Dominique Mandonnaud and carries upscale beauty products including its own private line. The company is owned by luxury accessories maker Louis Vuitton Moet Hennessy and has 1,300 stores in 27 countries, including 300 stores in North America.

Sephora has partnered with department store J.C. Penney since 2006 to have its own shop at the retailer's cosmetics counter to help bolster both brands. One of those counters can be found in the Westfield Sarasota Square Mall J.C. Penney. Those stores are typically 1,500 square feet. The Mall at UTC store will be 3,846 square feet, according to building plans.

This will be the first standalone Sephora mall location in the Bradenton-Sarasota area. The closest standalone Sephora to Bradenton is in the Brandon Town Center and at Tampa's International Plaza.

While known to cater mainly to women, Sephora also carries men's cologne, aftershave and shampoo.

Sephora will join Champs Sports, American Eagle Outfitters, Oil & Vinegar, Saks Fifth Avenue, Dillard's and Macy's as well as several restaurants announced so far. The mall is a partnership between Taubman Centers, based in Michigan, and Benderson Development Co., based in University Park.
