Houston, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - Chris Anderson scored 17 points in 21 minutes as the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs clinched a share of the Conference USA regular season title with a 70-48 rout of the Rice Owls at Tudor Fieldhouse.
Jaron Johnson netted 16 points for the Bulldogs (25-6, 13-3) as they picked up their fourth consecutive victory. Alex Hamilton added 11 points and Kenneth Smith dealt out nine assists. Nine of the 11 players who saw the floor for LA Tech contributed in the scoring column.
Sean Obi paced Rice (7-22, 2-14) with 12 points and five rebounds. Keith Washington hit on 5-of-8 shots from the floor for 11 points as the Owls suffered their seventh setback in a row.
Although the Owls shot 52.9 percent from the floor in the opening period, they went into the intermission trailing, 29-22. LA Tech registered 12 more field goal attempts than the hosts and outscored Rice, 12-6, in the paint before the break.
The Bulldogs connected on 58.2 percent of their field goal tries, including a 5-of-11 clip from 3-point range in the second stanza. Rice could not keep up as it was limited to 38.5 percent efficiency from the floor over the final 20 minutes of the contest.
LA Tech outscored the Owls, 11-3, at the charity stripe and enjoyed a 36-26 edge in the rebounding battle.
