Local roundup | Bayshore softball team cruises to 9-0 with district victory over Gulfport Boca Ciega

Marina Clark went 4-for-5 and drove in three runs, and Miriam Schmoll threw a three-hit shutout as the visiting Bayshore softball team claimed an 11-0 victory over Gulfport Boca Ciega on Tuesday in Class 5A-District 10 play.

Schmoll struck out 12 and walked one. Maddi Ramirez added three hits, and Taylor Izatt had two for the Bruins (11-0, 5-0).

BRADEN RIVER 9, PALMETTO 8 (8) -- Brittany Cole knocked in the winning run with a bunt in the bottom of the eighth as the Pirates improved to 4-6, 3-5 in Class 7A-District 10.

Sarah Crawford had three hits, knocking in two and scoring two, and Myah Moy added three hits.

Kylie Toler went 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBIs. Lexi Phelps picked up the victory, allowing a run in six innings of relief work.

BRADENTON CHRISTIAN 8, SAINT STEPHEN'S 6 -- Arial Marciano had three hits, including a key two-run single, to lift the host Panthers to a Class 3A-District 10 triumph.

Erica Hadden and winning pitcher Kara Saylor had two hits apiece for BCS (3-3, 1-0). Losing pitcher Kirsten Samuels led the Falcons with two hits at the plate.

JV -- Claire Strickland got the win and went 3-for-3 as the Palmetto junior varsity team defeated host Braden River 14-2 in four innings. Kate Flinn had three hits, and Julia Pritchard and Rachal Varna added two hits, and Megan Levins knocked in two runs with an inside-the-park home run.


BRADENTON CHRISTIAN 15, OUT-OF-DOOR ACADEMY 2 (5) -- Luke Darnell's big day helped the host Panthers win a crucial Class 3A-District 10 game.

Darnell had five RBIs and ended the game with a three-run home run in the fifth for BCS (5-4, 2-1), which also got two RBIs from Tyler Lyke. Aaron Downard allowed two runs on five hits in five innings to get the win. Jeremy Luna doubled for the Thunder (3-3, 2-1).

JV -- Mason Holbrook went 3-for-3 and drove in four runs as Bayshore (1-3) earned an 11-10 victory over Booker. Mike Grable got the win with 1 1/3 innings of scoreless relief, and Conlan Murphy knocked in a pair of runs.

Girls tennis

RIVERVIEW 7, MANATEE 0 -- The host Hurricanes (5-3) fell to the powerful Rams (6-2), their Class 4A-District 8 foes.

SARASOTA 4, BAYSHORE 3 -- Ava Schultz and Cailin Sinnegan won singles matches before teaming up for a doubles win for the host Bruins (2-4) in a loss to the Sailors (1-4).

SOUTHEAST 4, BOOKER 3 -- Madelyn Kumar and Hailey Williams had singles wins, then paired up for a doubles victory to help the Seminoles knock off the Tornadoes for the team's first win of the season. Daria Muklewicz added a singles win for Southeast (1-5).

Girls lacrosse

JUNIOR VARSITY -- Out-of-Door Academy claimed a 13-6 victory over host Cardinal Mooney thanks to five goals from Jordan Towsley. Lexi Meyers and Adelaide Mahler added two goals apiece for ODA. Vivienne Miller had five saves for the Thunder.
