BRADENTON - A Decatur, Ga. company has purchased land at 701 First St. E. slated for a Wawa convenience store in downtown Bradenton.

GH & G Bradenton LLC paid $2.29 million for the 2.43-acre parcel on the corner of First St. E. and Manatee Ave on Feb. 25. The seller was Sun Liquidations, a subsidiary of Lakeland, Fl.-based Sun Publications Inc., according to Manatee County records. GH & G's manager, Daniel Howe, is based in Holmes Beach, according to state records.

The vacant property was once the site of a Shopping Guide publication business, according to Tim Polk, Bradenton's planning director.

The proposed Wawa is expected to measure 6,119 square feet, and will have 20 gas pumps. Construction is expected to begin this year.
