LOCAL ROUNDUP | Bayshore falls to Booker in girls tennis

The Bruins put up a fight, but weren't able to defeat the host Tornadoes on Monday in girls tennis.

Janae Wilson, Jacqueline Laudry and Kaci Johnson all won singles matches for Booker, with Wilson and Laudry teaming up to take a doubles match.

Haley Donahue and Matalyn Miller were the singles winners for Bayshore (2-4). Donahue paired with Kailei Meluch for a doubles victory.

BRADENTON CHRISTIAN 4, CANTERBURY 0 -- Bradenton Christian (2-5) won four singles matches at Canterbury in St. Petersburg.

The visiting Panthers' Alexie Ferrer, Haley Waldo, Ashely Waldo and Kaya Meadows won. In doubles: Winners were Ferrer and Haley Waldo as well Ashley Waldo and Kaya Meadows.

Boys tennis

BRADENTON CHRISTIAN 4, CANTERBURY 1 -- Bradenton Christian's Noah Blevio, Cameron Brauner, Dylan Cotrone and Isaac Valley won four of five singles.

Canterbury's Evan Holvoet won the other singles. In doubles: Winners were Bradenton Christian's Will Burma and Blevio as well as Cotrone and Valley. The overall Panther boys' record is 4-3.


BOOKER 6, BRADENTON CHRISTIAN 4 -- Luke Darnell pitched a solid game, but fell into trouble late as the host Panthers lost to the Tornadoes, 6-4.

Darnell took the loss on the mound, lasting 5 1/3 innings while giving up two hits and striking out six. Lance Perkins had an RBI for Bradenton Christian (4-4).

Booker's Sam Proctor earned the win. Pat McKenzie was 2-4 with a homer for the Tornadoes (4-4).

Lakewood Ranch's lopsided win against Bayshore, 12-2

In the five-inning game at Lakewood Ranch, Mustangs' Tyler Mattes picked up the win after 3 innings of work, striking out 2. Three Mustangs had two hits each: Cameron Pearcey, Brandon Lam and Andrew Giddens. The Mustangs (4-3) host Palmetto at 7 p.m. Tuesday.


BRADEN RIVER 14, NORTH PORT 2 -- In the five-inning game, the host Pirates (3-6) were led by Lexie Phelps, who went 2 for 4 with 3 RBIs.

Zaire Yancy, also 2 for 4, including a double and a triple, plus 2 RBIs. Kylie Toler chipped in 2 RBIs in going 1 or 2. The next game is Tuesday when Palmetto visits Braden River.

BRADENTON CHRISTIAN 9, SOUTHEAST 5 -- Kara Sayloor got the win, striking out 10 hitters and allowing five runs and the visiting Panthers defeated the Seminoles.

Erica Haddon had two hits and two RBIs for Bradenton Christian.

Rebecca Boesen had three hits with two doubles, and added 10 strikeouts for Southeast (5-5). Megan Stevens added three hits, and Jurnee Bennett had two hits.

Boys lacrosse

OUT-OF-DOOR ACADEMY 14, ADMIRAL FARRAGUT ACADEMY 0 -- Aiden Dowdy recorded his first shutout of his high school career and the Thunder defeated the Bluejackets.

Andrew Ramano had 4 goals and Max Provost, Max Mann and Ben Martin each scored two goals for ODA. The Thunder will welcome Saint Stephen's at 7 p.m. Wednesday.

JV baseball

MANATEE 4, SARASOTA RIVERVIEW 3 --The visiting Hurricanes (4-3-1) were led by pitcher Eric Crawford, who went 7 innings and struck out 7, while giving up 2 runs.

The hitting attack saw Chris Lehman go 2 for 4, and Matt Mackey and Seth Miller adding an RBI each. The Hurricanes next game is on Monday at Cardinal Mooney.

SAINT STEPHEN'S 7, OUT-OF-DOOR ACADEMY 6 -- The The Falcons scored 5 runs in the first inning and went on to defeat the Thunder at home.
