Fix is in for Manatee County to bow to developers

March 4, 2014

Let us not forget Manatee County Administrator Ed Hunzeker's opinion at a Council of Government meeting: "I like the Long Bar Pointe Project. It's a world-class resort."

The chairman of the Planning Commission said a similar thing. The Fish House Meeting in Cortez was standing room only to hear Carlos Beruff emphasize their opinions.

The three-year saga of Robinson Farm's issue in Northwest Bradenton resulted in two administrative judges agreeing with over 200 petitioners and rejecting it.

I can imagine what is going on with the power players to find ways to change the comp plan to get their way on the above issues and others.

Our county doesn't have a charter. Most commissioners don't want it because it keeps them in power with no method of recall, term limits, etc.

Finally, Mike Bennett, who is included with the same groups, has reduced the number of voting precincts. It doesn't take a genius to figure it all out. Let's not forget his years involved with super PACs to oust Mayor Bill Evers, Commissioners Amy Stein and Jane Von Hahmann and later with Joe McClash.

Bennett has sealed the deal. It won't be long before the famous developers own the county commissioners.
