AMI churches thank donors for aid to Rod & Reel workers after fire

March 3, 2014

All Island Denominations, an organization of all six churches on Anna Maria Island, is appreciative of the Herald's recent mention of our assistance to displaced employees of the Rod & Reel Pier Restaurant, following last September's fire and closure of the facility.

AID has indeed been able to help these folks with rent, car insurance, utility bills and other expenses, which mounted up frighteningly during that six-month period without work.

To date, AID has received a total of $22,878.91 in contributions to the special R&R fund we set up, some gifts coming from as far away as Germany.

But we would be remiss if we failed to credit Joan Carter, owner of J&J Graphics in Anna Maria, who was responsible for a whopping $15,900 donated to that effort. She designed, created and sold special Rod & Reel T-shirts, with proceeds earmarked for the benefit of those employees and their families.

She deserves the thanks and praise of all of us.
