Spring break begins during already booming tourist season

Spring break begins during an already booming tourist season.

March brings a lot of warm-weather activity to Southwest Florida, not the least of which is an influx of college spring break visitors.

Besides all of the snow birds who've been wintering here for months, college students will be clogging the beaches and boosting the local economy in the coming weeks.

This weekend marks the official start of spring break. It may not be the best time of year for people who live here year-round, but it's a great time for restaurants and other businesses.

Manatee County benefits greatly because of its popular beaches and spring training ballpark at McKechnie Field in Bradenton.

Last year was a record year for tourism, and officials are hoping for even more business this year.
