Long Beach, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Travis Hammonds drilled a 3-pointer with eight seconds to play, lifting the Long Beach State 49ers to a 63-61 victory over the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors in a Big West Conference thriller at Walter Pyramid.
Tyler Lamb had 18 points and Dan Jennings tallied 15 points and 11 rebounds for Long Beach State (13-14, 9-4 Big West), which has won four of its last five.
Christian Standhardinger recorded 17 points and 11 rebounds and Brandon Spearman chipped in 11 points for Hawaii (19-9, 8-6), which had won four of its previous five.
Hawaii clung to a 35-33 lead at halftime. The Rainbow Warriors connected on 46.7 percent from the floor in the first period, compared to a 43.8 percent showing from Long Beach State.
The teams traded leads on nine separate occasions in the second half, with the final change coming when Hammonds nailed the game-winner to cap off an 8-1 run by the 49ers that closed out the game.
Long Beach State earned a 21-10 advantage in second chance points.
