Greenville, SC (SportsNetwork.com) - Jelani Hewitt scored 22 points as the Georgia Southern Eagles claimed an 82-73 victory over the Furman Paladins in a Southern Conference clash at Timmons Arena.
Tre Bussey added 17 points for GSU (13-17, 6-9 SoCon), which had lost four of its previous five. Brian Holmes chipped in 14 points and Curtis Diamond chipped in 11.
Stephen Croone finished with a game-high 26 points and seven assists for Furman (9-10, 3-13), which has lost three of its last four. William Gates tacked on 13 points and Kendrec Ferrara contributed 12.
GSU dominated the first 20 minutes, sinking 61.5 percent from the floor, including 9-of-13 from 3-point range, to enter halftime leading, 47-34. Furman hit on an even 50 percent in the frame.
Despite cooling to 44 percent shooting in the second half, the Eagles were able to hold on, as the Paladins hit on 44.8 percent from the field.
GSU had a 31-23 advantage on the boards. Both teams scored 19 points at the free-throw line.
