Centurion, South Africa (SportsNetwork.com) - Simon Dyson fired a 7-under 65 on Thursday to claim the clubhouse lead before the Tshwane Open was suspended due to dangerous weather.
Trevor Fisher, Jr. was also at 7-under through 16 holes and will have a chance to claim the outright lead when the first round resumes at 11:45 p.m. ET Thursday.
The second round is scheduled to start at 12:00 a.m. Friday.
Jared Harvey, Ross Fisher and Erik Van Rooyen were all able to complete their opening round at Copperleaf Golf & Country Estate with matching 6-under 66s to share third place with Darren Fichardt and Danie Van Tonder, who were both 6- under through 17 holes.
Lucas Bjerregaard, Chris Wood and Shiv Kapur fired 5-under 67s and are tied for eighth. Morten Orum Madsen, Kristoffer Broberg and Kevin Phelan were also at minus-5 through 17, 15 and 14 holes, respectively.
Dyson parred the first before rolling in a birdie at the second. He later added another gain at the fifth to make the turn at 2-under.
He converted another birdie effort at the 10th, and after parring his next four holes, he closed with a flurry of four straight birdies from the 15th to vault to the top of the leaderboard.
"It's a lovely start. It's my lowest round in a good few years, especially on the first day," said Dyson. "It just puts you in a nice frame of mind, a good stead, and sets it up nicely to have a good weekend."
Fisher, Jr. also reached red numbers with a birdie at the second. He reached 3-under with a pair of birdies at the fourth and seventh.
The South African pulled within one of Dyson with three straight birdies from the ninth, and claimed a share of the lead with a birdie at the 15th.
He parred the 16th before play was called for the day.
Harvey recorded six birdies during his bogey-free round, while Fisher countered two bogeys with eight birdies to claim his share of third place.
Van Rooyen had three bogeys, seven birdies and an eagle during his opening round to reach 6-under.
NOTES: At 7,964 yards, this course is the longest on the European Tour ... South Africans have won 10 of the last 13 European Tour events on home soil ... Dyson has won six time on the European Tour, but not since the 2011 KLM Open ... Fisher, Jr. is seeking his first career win on the European Tour.
