Undercover Bradenton police arrest 4 on drug, other charges

BRADENTON -- Four people were arrested Tuesday after undercover officers came across a car that smelled of marijuana, according to Bradenton police.

About 9 p.m., officers with the Casual Clothes Unit were patrolling the City Walk Apartments, 2005 Fifth St. W., because recent violent crimes in the area, when they spotted a car that had previously fled from officers, according to a report.

As the officers approached, the driver, later identified as Tevin Span, ran away. As some officers chased Span, others stayed with the car, which smelled of marijuana. They also saw a pill bottle of rock cocaine in the driver's door pocket, police said.

As officers chased Span, they saw him get into the passenger side of a car that had turned into the parking lot of the Bradenton Village Apartments "to aide Mr. Span in escaping from law enforcement," the report states.

Both Span, and the driver of the car, Ariel Davis, were arrested.

Back at the car, Dashanique Grooms and Jarvaris McCants were also arrested.

Span is charged with possession of cocaine and resisting arrest. He was being held at the Manatee County jail on bonds totaling $2,000.

Davis is charged with aiding escape. She was being held on a $1,500 bond.

Grooms is charged with possession of marijuana. She is being held on a $500 bond.

And McCants is charged with possession of marijuana and resisting arrest. He is being held on bonds totaling $1,000.

At the time of his latest arrest, McCants was out on bond after an arrest last week on weapons and drug charges, according to police and jail records.
