UNIVERSITY PARK -- Shoe retailer Foot Locker will be coming to the new Mall at University Town Center.

Foot Locker's opening in University Park sets up a return for the sneaker retailer to the Sarasota-Bradenton after Foot Locker and Lady Foot Locker left the DeSoto Square mall. The closest Foot Locker stores to Bradenton are in St. Petersburg and Brandon.

This Foot Locker will be 4,683 square feet, including 3,076 square feet for the sales floor, according to the building permit, which is under review by Sarasota County.

Foot Locker also owns Bradenton-based Champs Sports, which has not announced plans indicating it will be coming to the mall. Foot Locker operates 3,473 stores in 23 countries and in the third quarter of 2013 opened 28 new stores, remodeled or relocated 118 stores and closed 13 stores, according to its website.

The 880,000-square-foot Mall at UTC, on the corner of Cattlemen Road and University Parkway, is scheduled to open Oct. 16 and is being leased by Taubman in cooperation with Benderson Development Co.

Construction is expected to start soon on the Dillard's at the mall. Dillard's also filed for building permits Monday. Those permits are under review. Dillard's construction value is listed at $7.8 million and will be built by CDI Contractors

from Little Rock, Ark.

Foot Locker would join Oil & Vinegar, American Eagle Outfitters, Brooks Brothers, Macy's, Dillard's, Saks Fifth Avenue among others as about 100 stores and restaurants are expected to join the mall.
