Manatee seeking state nursing home for veterans

MANATEE -- Manatee County officials will be applying as a possible site for a state nursing home that would serve military veterans, they said Tuesday.

The state has funding for an additional nursing facility, and 10 areas in Florida are being considered, officials said.

Three county-owned sites will be submitted as part of the application, said Ed Hunzeker, county administrator.

Manatee County Commissioner John Chappie called it "a great opportunity," as more than 30,000 veterans live in the county.
