McKechnie Field in Bradenton again open for baseball

February 25, 2014

Chris Diaz's run-scoring single proved to be the difference in Team Gold's 4-3 win over Team Black during the Pittsburgh Pirates' intrasquad game in front of 2,418 fans at McKechnie Field as spring training games got their unofficial start Tuesday afternoon.

Tony Sanchez doubled and homered for Team Gold, and Andrew Lambo, the Pirates' Minor League Player of the Year in 2013, went 1-for-2 with a single and a walk. He also scored the game-winning run.

The game raised $19,328 to benefit the Manatee Education Foundation, Wakeland Elementary School and G.D. Rogers Garden Elementary School.

The Pirates open the Grapefruit League schedule with a home game against the New York Yankees at 1:05 p.m. Wednesday at McKechnie Field.
