New Orleans Victory Belles coming to Bradenton
BRADENTON -- The Victory Belles from the National WWII Museum in New Orleans will be at the Manatee Performing Arts Center for one show at 2 p.m. April 13.
The Victory Belles present a nostalgic journey through World War II-era musical classics such as "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy," "Don't Sit Under the Apple Tree," "Chattanooga Choo Choo" and "I'll Be Seeing You," in three-part harmony.
Tickets are $19 for adults, $10 for students and teachers.

MTI dominates SkillsUSA Regionals with 94 medals
BRADENTON -- Manatee Technical Institute students dominated the 2014 Region 6 Florida SkillsUSA competitions with 47 gold, 28 silver and 19 bronze medals.
MTI's 94 medals were more than any other school in the region.
Six tech centers and three high schools participated in the regional competition. Tech centers included MTI, Cape Coral Institute of Technology, Charlotte Technical Center, Fort Meyers Institute of Technology, Lorenzo Walker Institute of Technology, and Sarasota County Technical Institute.
Sarasota and Charlotte Tech each won 42 medals.
In the college/postsecondary cosmetology contest, Taylor Hawkins won the gold for MTI.
In automotive, Joaquin Ochoa took first place in the college/postsecondary division, and Ricardo Losert won the high school/secondary division. Classmates Tyler Inman and Joshua Jackson took home the bronze in the postsecondary and secondary contests, respectively.
Other notable wins for MTI: Terry Bradley, Ernest Brown, and Damon Grannan swept the college/postsecondary major appliance repair contest placing first, second and third, respectively.
Kristina Brucato and John Castello won the high school division of television video production.
Digital design students Grace Robinson and Lisbeth Gonzalez won their divisions of photography.
Manatee District high schools competing: Bayshore, Braden River and Southeast.
Southeast's Sydney Mitchell, Gabrielle Murphy, Daniel Shevlin and Luizomgel Walle won gold in broadcast news production, and Bayshore's Conner Welch took gold in related technical math.
Skills contests were held Thursday at Manatee Technical Institute's new main campus on State Road 70 and the leadership contests were held at Charlotte Technical Center in Port Charlotte.
Gold and silver winners advance to state in Pensacola April 27-29.
