Noles hurlertosses gemin 6-0 win
Southeast sophomore pitcher Rebecca Boesen threw a no-hitter, striking out 16 batters, to lead the visiting Seminoles to a 6-0 softball victory over Sarasota Christian in the Blazers' season opener.
Boesen walked three on the way to her first no-hitter of the season.
Boesen and Megan Stevens each had two hits, and Janet Santiago tripled for Southeast (4-3).
PALMETTO 12, BRADENTON CHRISTIAN 2 (5) -- Kendall Vedder and Auria Mounts each had three hits to carry the host Tigers past the Panthers.
Samantha Urbina got the win on the mound, allowing two earned runs and two hits, while striking out six and walking seven, in a route-going performance.
Jordan Whitaker, Emilie Wingate, Sabria Bruton and Sarah McClintic each had two hits for Palmetto (7-1). Wingate drove in a pair of runs.
JV -- Palmetto (5-3) enjoyed a run-rule victory in the junior varsity game, too, winning 15-0 over BCS. Raven Eldridge led the offense by going 3-for-3 with three RBIs. Kate Flinn had two hits and three RBIs, and Lacey Brassfield and Julia Pritchard each added two hits.
MANATEE 7, PALM HARBOR UNIVERSITY 2 -- Weston Davis allowed one earned run over six innings, and Max Moneuse had two hits and two RBIs as the visiting Hurricanes (3-1) won their Class 8A-District 8 opener on the road.
Davis struck out five for Manatee. Tony Diaz added two hits, and Robbie Rew and Chase Diaz each doubled and scored.
BAYSHORE 7, CARDINAL MOONEY 6 (8) -- Jose Rosado was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to force in the winning run for the Bruins in the bottom of the eighth inning.
Daniel Schroeder, won won the game on the mound with a scoreless inning of relief, hit a key double that put runners on second and third in the eighth. After an intentional walk, Rosado took one for the team.
Jerad Paparella and Justin Lakin each went 4-for-4 for Bayshore (2-3). Derek Paparella went 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs.
Matt Quinlan and Gage Schrantz each had two hits for the Cougars (2-3).
BRADEN RIVER 4, LAKEWOOD RANCH 1 -- Eric Kimsey went the distance on the mound, allowing an earned run and five hits while striking out nine, as the visiting Pirates beat their rivals in their first Class 7A-District 10 game.
Derrick Cozzette went 3-for-3, and Brian Dillingham had two RBIs and two runs scored for Braden River (4-1).
