Local roundup | Bradenton Christian baseball team rolls by Tampa Cambridge 12-1

Hunter McGarry went 4-for-5 and scored three runs, and Luke Darnell homered and drove in four as the Bradenton Christian baseball team defeated host Tampa Cambridge 12-1 on Thursday.

The Panthers (2-2) got a good outing from Aaron Downard, who pitched five innings and allowed a run on two hits and struck out four. Darnell had two hits, and McGarry contributed two RBIs.

PALMETTO 13, SOUTHEAST 3 -- Noah Williams pitched 6 1/3 innings of scoreless relief to help the visiting Tigers (3-1) get past the Seminoles (1-3).

Jake Mersch led the offense, going 4-for-5 with three RBIs and two runs scored. Hunter Leonard added two hits and two RBIs, and Jared Taylor had two hits.

SAINT STEPHEN'S 12, CLEARWATER LAKESIDE CHRISTIAN 2 -- The visiting Falcons (4-0) rode starting pitcher Nick Rodhouse, who went four innings and gave up two hits, four walks and no runs and had six strikeouts. Three Falcons -- Parker Shanahan, Sam O'Dell and Caleb Eyre -- each went 1-for-3 with an RBI.

INSPIRATION ACADEMY 15, SARASOTA CHRISTIAN 1 (5) -- Sam Speir homered twice and knocked in four runs to lead the host Lions (6-1) past the Blazers (1-3).

Payton Jenkins went five innings on the mound, striking out eight and allowing an earned run and four hits. He also had two hits, including a homer, and two RBIs at the plate. Jacob Heiser went 2-for-2 with three RBIs.


SOUTHEAST 10, BOOKER 8 -- Megan Stevens collected four hits, and winning pitcher Rebecca Boesen drove in three runs to lead the visiting Seminoles (3-3) past the Tornadoes.

Boesen, Janet Santiago, Emma Rissman and Emma Bartges each had two hits for Southeast. Boesen struck out 13 batters on the mound.

BAYSHORE 7, ENGLEWOOD LEMON BAY 5 -- Kristin Staley and LaShara James each had three hits, and the host Bruins defeated the Manta Rays, 7-5. Bri Potts got her first win of the season on the mound for undefeated Bayshore (6-0), and Miriam Schmoll earned the save.

JV -- Ariel Marciano had two hits at the plate and got the win on the mound as Bradenton Christian got past Manatee. Katie Vautrinot also had two hits for the Panthers (1-0).

Boys tennis

MANATEE 7, BAYSHORE 0 -- Kevin Roman, Sage Stryczny, Dylan Clemann and Joey Wymer each won a singles match and had a hand in a doubles victory as the host Hurricanes (5-1) defeated the Bruins (0-3). Bayshore forfeited the No. 5 singles match.

Girls tennis

MANATEE 7, BAYSHORE 0 -- The Hurricanes (3-2) swept past the visiting Bruins (2-2) behind singles victories from Grayson Hall, Katelinn Wurm, Carolina Montes, Noell Niemann and Briana Gonzales. Hall and Wurm combined for a victory at No. 1 doubles, and Chloe Conboy and Gonzales won at No. 2 doubles for Manatee.
