Recap: Appalachian St vs. Western Carolina

Boone, NC (SportsNetwork.com) - James Sinclair scored 17 points and grabbed seven rebounds to lift the Western Carolina Catamounts to a 74-61 win over the Appalachian State Mountaineers in a Southern Conference matchup at the Holmes Center.

Tom Tankelewicz chipped in 16 points for WCU (16-12, 9-4 SoCon), which also received 14 points, six assists and five steals courtesy of Tawaski King. The win was the second in a row and fourth in five outings for the Catamounts.

Tommy Spagnolo registered a double-double with 18 points and 11 rebounds for the Mountaineers (8-18, 4-9). Ty Toney netted 12 points and Tevin Baskin contributed 11 points.

The Catamounts took a 33-25 lead into the intermission after they connected on 48.1 percent of their field goal tries in the opening period. Appalachian State shot just 38.5 percent from the floor and missed all seven of its tries from behind the 3-point line in the first half.

WCU knocked down 40 percent of its field goal tries and converted 15-of-18 attempts at the charity stripe to extend its lead after the break. The Mountaineers made good on 46.2 percent of their shots from the floor, but sank only 11-of-19 attempts at the free-throw line in the second half.

Although both sides finished with 14 miscues, WCU outscored the Mountaineers, 14-6, in points off turnovers.
