Chattanooga, TN (SportsNetwork.com) - Tre Bussey poured in 25 points as the Georgia Southern Eagles coasted to a 77-61 win over the Chattanooga Mocs in Southern Conference action at McKenzie Arena.
Jelani Hewitt scored 24 points and swiped three steals for the Eagles (12-16, 5-8 SoCon) as they snapped a four-game losing streak. Angel Matias added 14 points, while Marvin Baynham pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds.
Z. Mason led Chattanooga (16-12, 10-3) with 21 points and seven rebounds. Greg Pryor netted 10 points as the Mocs suffered their third setback in four games.
GSU took a 36-34 lead into halftime after it shot an even 50 percent from the floor in the opening 20 minutes of the contest. The Mocs, who led by 12 with 5:23 left to play before the intermission, managed to sink only 40 percent of their field goal tries in the first half.
Chattanooga was limited to 40 percent shooting in the second stanza and also converted only 9-of-19 attempts at the free-throw line after the break. The Eagles knocked down 5-of-10 shots from beyond the arc in the second period to pull away.
GSU outscored the Mocs, 40-20, in the paint and enjoyed a 37-30 edge in the rebounding battle.
