MANATEE -- A 58-year-old Manatee County man was arrested Wednesday, charged with defrauding a pawn broker in an unusual case involving 18 iPads and an XBOX.

Between Dec. 9 and and Dec. 28, Robert Berger rented 19 devices from Rent King, 4615 14th St. W., using the guise that he was starting a business, according to a Manatee County Sheriff's Office report.

A pawn search revealed that Berger pawned 11 of the iPads and the XBOX at America Super Pawn, 5612 15th St. E., Bradenton, the report states.

He also pawned four iPads out of Manatee County and three iPads are unaccounted for, the report states.

Berger swore that the items were not rented, leased or stolen, the report states.

After an initial down payment to Rent King, Berger did not pay another cent, the report states.

Berger remained in the Manatee County jail Thursday on bonds totaling $118,500, according to the sheriff's office website.
