SCF baseball rally falls shy

in 8-7 defeat

Scott Williams hit a two-out, two-run double in the top of the ninth inning to get the State College of Florida baseball team to within a run, but the rally died there in an 8-7 defeat at College of Central Florida on Wednesday.

Williams and Sean Trent each went 2-for-5 for the Manatees (8-3).

SEMINOLE OSCEOLA 5, PALMETTO 2 -- Mia Thomas won at No. 4 singles and teamed with Sydney Lang for a win at No. 2 doubles, but the host Tigers fell to 4-2.

OUT-OF-DOOR ACADEMY 4, VENICE 2 -- The Thunder got singles wins from Maria Ross, Mary Ann Rompf, Sydney Sforzo and Charlotte Dixon to move to 4-0 with a win over the visiting Indians (3-2)

JV baseball

MANATEE 3, BRADEN RIVER 2 -- Chris Lehman's walk-off double scored Bradley Coleman with the winning run as the Hurricanes (1-2-1) downed the Pirates.

Jordan Ely pitched six innings, giving up no earned runs, and Garret Ware got the win in relief.

LAKEWOOD RANCH 3, VENICE 1 -- Matt Monroe pitched four innings, and Tom Stire struck out the side in seventh for the save as the visiting Mustangs (3-0) beat the Indians. Grant Weisman had an RBI single, and Tyler Strong doubled and scored in the victory.
