Hurricaneswin at homein 8 innings

Max Moneuse rolled a base hit through a drawn-in infield with one out in the bottom of the eighth inning to score Robbie Rew with the winning run Tuesday in Manatee's 3-2 victory over visiting Seminole at G.T. Bray park.

Moneuse had two hits and two RBIs for the Hurricanes (2-1). P.J. Reed tossed two scoreless innings, striking out four, to get the victory. Starter Chase Diaz threw five scoreless innings for Manatee.

BAYSHORE 16, FROSTPROOF 6 (5) -- Derek Paparella had three hits, scored four times and knocked in a pair of runs as the Bruins earned a run-rule victory Monday night.

Julian Valdivia added three hits, and Andrew Kururtz and Jerad Paparella each had two. Daniel Schroeder went the distance on the mound for the win.

JV -- Matt Ambrosino tossed a three-hitter, allowing no earned runs, as host Lakewood Ranch defeated Sarasota 3-1. Ryley Zunica knocked in a pair of runs for the Mustangs (2-0).

Boys basketball

ST. PETERSBURG SHORE-CREST 73, CARDINAL MOONEY 63 -- Shorecrest Prep head coach Daryl Blume describes junior guard Brady Grimm as a "scorer" and the host Chargers needed every of bit of his efforts.

Grimm scored 21 of his 26 points in the second half as the Chargers rallied past the Cougars in their Class 3A-Region 3 semifinal.

Ryan McMahon led Cardinal Mooney (18-9) with 22 points. Matt Hueston added 10 points and 10 rebounds.

The Chargers struggled from the floor in the first half and found themselves down by as many as nine points in the second quarter. A basket by Chase Showalter gave Shorecrest a one-point lead but Cardinal Mooney led 26-25 at the half.

Softball

SOUTHEAST 12, GULFPORT BOCA CIEGA 2 -- Rebecca Boesen pitched a two-hitter, striking out 12, to lead the visiting Seminoles to their first district victory.

Boesen, Meagan Stevens and Olivia Yaryura each had three hits for Southeast (2-3, 1-1 Class 5A-District 10). Stevens drove in a pair of runs and had four stolen bases, and Yaryura had two RBIs.

PALMETTO 10, NORTH PORT 0 (5) -- The visiting Tigers won their Class 7A-District 10 opener behind Auria Mounts' one-hit, six-strikeout pitching performance.

Sabria Bruton contributed two hits and two RBIs for the Tigers (6-0), and Emilie Wingate came all the way around to score on a triple and a throwing error.

BRADENTON CHRISTIAN 8, TAMPA BAYSHORE CHRISTIAN 2 -- Kara Saylor pitched a one-hitter and struck out 11 batters as the host Panthers won their season opener.

Erika Hadden had a hit and an RBI to lead BCS. Adriana Hadded added a hit, and Ariel Marciano drove in a run.

Boys tennis

MANATEE 7, SOUTHEAST 0 -- Kevin Roman, Dylan Clemman, Joey Wyner and Andre Sanchez each won a singles match and played on a winning doubles team for the host Hurricanes, who moved to 4-1.

Sage Stryczny also won a singles match for Manatee. Southeast is 2-4.

BRADENTON CHRISTIAN 6, ST. PETERSBURG ADMIRAL FARRAGUT 2 -- The visiting Panthers (2-1) won the first four singles matches to pick up the victory over the Bluejackets. Singles winners were Will Buurma, Noah Bledio, Cameron Brauner and Dylan Cotron.

Bledio and Zach Mayer won the No. 1 doubles match, and Catrone and Brauner won the No. 2 contest.

Girls tennis

MANATEE 6, SOUTHEAST 1 -- The Hurricanes (2-2) got victories from singles players Grayson Hall, Katylynn Wurm, Carolina Montes, Noell Niemann and Briana Gonzalez to defeat the host Seminoles (0-4).

Southeast's lone win came from the doubles team of Jordashia Watson and Madelyn Kumar.

PALMETTO 4, BOOKER 3 -- The Tigers' Sydney Lang and Mia Thomas teamed up for the deciding victory at No. 2 doubles, an 8-1 win over the visiting Tornadoes.

Lang and Thomas also won singles matches for Palmetto (4-1) as did Rikki Allard.

ST. PETERSBURG ADMIRAL FARRAGUT 4, BRADENTON CHRISTIAN 3 -- The host Bluejackets denied the Panthers their first team victory of the season. Winning singles matches were Ashley Waldo and Kaya Meadows, and Alexis Ferrer and Haley Waldo won the No. 2 doubles match for the Panthers (0-3).

Girls lacrosse

OUT-OF-DOOR ACADEMY 15, SARASOTA MILITARY ACADEMY 10 -- Kimmy Comito had eight goals and two assists to lead the visiting Thunder to victory in their season opener.

Taylor Albano and Tess Siciliano added three goals apiece, and Lexi Meyers contributed two assists. Abby Bannar made 18 saves for ODA.
