Port meeting canceled

MANATEE COUNTY -- The Manatee County Port Authority has canceled its regular meeting, originally scheduled for 9 a.m. Wednesday. The meeting was canceled because the Port Authority lacked a full agenda .

The next scheduled meeting will be held during the Feb. 25 meeting of the Board of Manatee County Commissioners at the county administration building at 1112 Manatee Ave. W., Bradenton. The port meeting will start at 9:15 a.m. or soon thereafter.

The port authority usually meets at 9 a.m. on the third Thursday of each month on the third floor of the Port Manatee Intermodal Center, 1905 Intermodal Circle, Palmetto.

Champions of Healthcare nominations due

MANATEE COUNTY -- The deadline for the Manatee Chamber of Commerce's Champions of Healthcare Awards nomination is Feb. 28.

The awards recognize individuals, institutions and programs that have made an extraordinary impact in the Manatee County health care community. There are nine award categories:

Physician; Nurse: Allied Health Professional; Individual of Merit; Institution/Program; Research/Innovation; Adult Volunteer; Youth Volunteer (includes a scholarship); and Lifetime Achievement.

Chamber to host a Meet the Rays event

LAKEWOOD RANCH -- The Manatee Chamber of Commerce and The Greater Sarasota Chamber of Commerce will host the 2014 Meet the Rays luncheon on Feb. 25.

Attendees will have the opportunity to have lunch, mingle with management, meet pitchers Heath Bell, Jake Odorizzi and C.J. Riefenhauser, and get pumped for the 2014 season.

The event, which will take place at the Lakewood Ranch Country Club, will feature giveaways of game tickets and Rays promotional items, as well as the opportunity for questions and answers.

Cost is $40 for chamber members and $55 for non-members. Children under 12 can attend for $20.

Registration deadline is Friday. All attendees must be pre-registered.
