Manatee sheriff's office victim of hit-and-run driver

MANATEE -- A Manatee County Sheriff's Office transport van was damaged by a hit-and-run driver Tuesday morning, according to a news release.

The incident happened sometime between 6:45 a.m. and 7:30 a.m. in the parking lot at Popi's Place IV, 3911 U.S. 301 N. in Ellenton.

"When the vehicle operator came out of the establishment he realized that his assigned vehicle had been struck in the rear by another vehicle which had left the scene," the release states. "The damage consisted of a significant dent to the left rear door and damage to the fold-down stairs used by arrestees to enter the rear of the van."

The other vehicle was not located, according to the sheriff's office.
