Two Manatee students honored by U.S. Air Force Association

Two students win U.S. Air Force club awards

MANATEE -- Two Manatee County students were recently honored by the Sarasota-Manatee Chapter of the Air Force Association at an awards ceremony for the Lockheed Martin Manatee Regional Science and Engineering Fair.

Anna Zimmerman, a Braden River Middle School student, was honored for her aerospace-themed project, "An Eco-Friendly Rocket Fuel." Her research evaluated the comparative performance of a hybrid rocket motor when using bees wax as a fuel as compared with paraffin-based fuel.

Merritt Kendzior, a Southeast High School student, was onored for "Wing It," which explored if varying the angle of a wing could change the speed needed to create specific amount of lift.

Chapter President Mike Richardson presented Zimmerman and Kendzior with AFA certificates of achievement and AFA achievement medals, a Sterling Publications book titled "Solar System" and a backpack full of promotional items provided by the U.S. Air Force and the Manatee County Air Force recruiters.

Sen. Cruz to attend Thursday Statesman of Year event

SARASOTA -- Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, will be introduced at the Republican Party of Sarasota County Statesman of the Year event at 5:30 p.m. Thursday by State Committeeman Christian Ziegler at the Hyatt Sarasota.

Parking for the free event is limited so attendees are advised to arrive early.
