SCF baseball team cruises to 7-0 record
Manatee High product Trevor Beeman went 3-for-4 with a home run and a pair of RBIs to lead the State College of Florida baseball team to its seventh consecutive victory to start the season, a 6-3 victory Friday over visiting Florida State College of Jacksonville.
Beeman's former Hurricanes teammate, Tyler Souris, picked up the victory in relief. He pitched two scoreless innings. Ryan Valdes came on for the save, striking out the side in the ninth inning.
Danny Lee, another Manatee product, had two hits and scored twice for the Manatees, who play Florida State College of Jacksonville in a doubleheader at 2 p.m. Saturday at Robert C. Wynn Field.
BRADEN RIVER 8, BAYSHORE 3 -- Cole Pentcosky and Eric Kimsey each had two hits as the host Pirates outlasted the Bruins to improve to 3-0.
Starter Brock Younce pitched five innings, allowing one earned run on four hits and striking out four, to get the win. Pentcosky drove in two runs.
PALMETTO 7, WAUCHULA HARDEE 6 -- Jordan Whitaker's two-run double in the top of the fifth inning put the Tigers ahead for good as Palmetto (5-0) erased an early 6-1 deficit.
Winning pitcher Auria Mounts, who struck out 10 in seven innings, had two hits, including a solo home run. Sabria Bruton, Trinity Vega and Whitaker had two hits apiece.
