Man arrested after stabbing inside Sarasota library

SARASOTA -- A 27-year-old man has been charged with stabbing another man inside the Selby Library in Sarasota, according to Sarasota police.

About 11:10 a.m., the two men were on the second floor of the library, near the computers, when they got into an altercation. Police said one of the men, Andrew Timshin, stabbed the other man in the right shoulder and left side of his neck.

"When officers arrived, they were directed upstairs where Timshin was sitting near the computers. He was cooperate and placed into custody," a news release states.

Timshin was charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and taken to the Sarasota County jail, where he is being held without bond.

The victim, who is 26, was flown by helicopter to Blake Medical Center, where he was in stable condition, police said.

The Selby Library is located at 1331 First St., Sarasota.
