Sarasota man dies in crash on I-75 in Palmetto

MANATEE -- A 36-year-old Sarasota man was killed Friday morning when the car he was driving drifted into the center median of Interstate 75 in Palmetto and slammed into an overpass, according to Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash happened about 9:40 a.m., according to a FHP news release.

Steven A. Larkin was driving north in the inside lane approaching the Erie Road overpass when his 2000 Toyota RAV 4 drifted off the roadway and struck a concrete pillar for the overpass.

Larkin was pronounced dead at the scene.

FHP said he was not using a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
