Moraga, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - James Walker III tallied 21 points as the Saint Mary's-CA Gaels battled back to defeat the San Diego Toreros, 69-57, in West Coast Conference action at McKeon Pavilion.
Also scoring in double figures for the Gaels (19-7, 9-4 WCC), as they won their third straight contest, were Stephen Holt and Kerry Carter with 13 and 12 points, respectively.
The Toreros (13-14, 4-10) were led by Dennis Kramer who scored a game-high 25 points and pulled down nine rebounds, followed by Johnny Dee and Duda Sanadze with 14 and 10 points, respectively. San Diego's slide has now reached four games.
Both teams shot the ball better than 51 percent from the field in the first half and while USD was able to convert a perfect 8-of-8 at the free-throw line, the visitors still had to settle for a 35-34 deficit at the break.
In the second half the Toreros were able to move out to a five-point lead early in the frame, but a series of strong runs by the hosts brought them back and made it look easy down the stretch in the 12-point decision.
The game featured nine ties and 11 lead changes and while San Diego did finished the contest with 51.2 percent accuracy from the floor, the squad made just 3-of-14 behind the 3-point line.
