Palmetto'sBench firesno-hitter

Tyler Bench threw a five-inning no-hitter Thursday as the host Palmetto baseball team whipped Booker 10-0 in a game stopped by the run rule.

Bench struck out nine and walked two. Hunter Leonard had two hits and drove in three runs for the Tigers (2-0). Blas Rodriguez added two hits, stole two bases and scored three times.

BRADEN RIVER 6, BRADENTON CHRISTIAN 2 -- Eric Kimsey struck out five while only allowing one unearned run on three hits in 5 2/3 innings to get the victory as the host Pirates defeated the Panthers.

Tyler Dyson got Braden River (2-0) on the board with a two-run triple in the first inning. Hunter Thomas added two hits for the Pirates in a game full of errors on both squads.

Doug Pace and Peyton Thomas had two hits apiece for Bradenton Christian (1-1).

LAKEWOOD RANCH 9, OUT-OF-DOOR ACADEMY 0 -- Colton Chupp, Tyler Mattes and Jorge Corbitt combined on a one-hitter as the visiting Mustangs eased past the Thunder.

Chupp, the starter, went five innings and struck out nine, giving up the lone hit to Austin Hoppe. Cameron Pearcey, Garrett Schultz, Tanner Fults and Brendon Lewellen had two hits apiece for Lakewood Ranch (2-0).

SAINT STEPHEN'S 10, INSPIRATION ACADEMY 3 -- Caleb Eyre had two hits and two RBIs, and Nick Runde and Griffin Donnelly laced two hits apiece as the host Falcons improved to 2-0.

Nick Rodhouse went six innings on the mound, allowing two earned runs and five hits while striking out three and walking three.


PALMETTO 13, SOUTHEAST  0 -- Samantha Urbina won her second game on the hill, going the distance and allowing just two hits while striking out three as the Tigers routed the Seminoles on the road.

Urbina also got in on the hit parade, going 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI. Emily Wingate was 3-for-3 with two RBIs, Kendall Vedder was 2-3, and Sabria Bruton added two more RBIs for Palmetto (4-0).

BAYSHORE 10, ARCADIA DESOTO 0 (5) -- Miriam Schmoll struck out 13 batters in five scoreless innings and went 3-for-4 with a three-run home run at the plate to lift the visiting Bruins to a run-rule victory.

Schmoll allowed just two hits and no walks. Kristin Staley went 4-for-4, and Lashara James had three hits for Bayshore (3-0). Marina Clark also launched a three-run homer.

Boys tennis

MANATEE 6, SAINT STEPHEN'S 1 -- Sage Stryczny, Dylan Clemann and Chris Walden each won a singles match and played on a winning doubles team as the visiting Hurricanes (1-1) defeated the Falcons (3-1).

Will Kaklis got the other singles win for Manatee. Kevin Roman joined Walden for a win at No. 1 doubles.

Saint Stephen's got a victory from top singles player JP Descheneaux.

BRADENTON CHRISTIAN  7, SEFFNER CHRISTIAN 0 -- The host Panthers (1-1) had no trouble with the Crusaders behind two wins apiece from Noah Blevio, Cameron Brauner and Dylan Cotrone.

Blevio and Brauner won at No. 1 and 2 singles, respectively, and teamed up for a win at No. 1 doubles. Cotrone, who won at No. 3 singles, and Will Buurma won at No. 2 doubles.

Isaac Valley and Zach Mayer also won singles match for BCS.

Girls tennis

SAINT STEPHEN'S 7, MANATEE 0 -- The Falcons swept the visiting Hurricanes (0-2) behind singles triumphs from Cladia Usubillaga, Mpho Cho, Annie Brey, Grace Moore and Qin Qin Liu.

Moore and Liu combined for a doubles win as did Brey and Caitlyn Lynch for Saint Stephen's (4-0).

LAKEWOOD RANCH 4, SOUTHEAST 1 -- Ashley Bongart, Selena Gomez, Jessie Krolpa won singles matches for the visiting Mustangs.

Madelyn Krumar earned the lone victory for the Seminoles (0-3). The two teams dispensed with doubles after Lakewood Ranch clinched the victory. The name of the fourth Mustangs singles victor was unavailable.

PALMETTO 4, BRADEN RIVER 3 -- Rikki Allard's win by forfeit for the Tigers was the deciding factor in a close match against the Pirates, as Palmetto edged Braden River.

Jourdan McKinnis and Sydney Lang brought home singles victories for Palmetto (3-1), and McKinnis teamed with Maggie Xanders for a doubles win.

Victoria Bernhardt and Payton Diss were singles winners for Braden River (1-3), and Daniella Ojeda and Larissa Labolt brought home a doubles victory.

BAYSHORE 4, SARASOTA 3 -- The Bruins' top three singles players -- Ava Schultz, Savannah Gray and Cailin Finnegan -- won matches, and visiting Bayshore got the deciding triumph from the doubles team of Finnegan and Haley Donahue to improve to 2-1.

SEFFNER CHRISTIAN 4, BRADENTON CHRISTIAN  3 -- Ashley Waldo won a singles match and teamed with Kaya Meadows for a doubles win in a losing effort for the host Panthers (0-2). Abby Mayer got the other win for BCS.
