Tornado warning canceled for Myakka City area

MANATEE -- The National Weather Service has cancelled a tornado warning issued earlier for East Manatee.

The warning, which was in effect until 6 p.m., covered eastern Manatee County, as well as southwestern Hardee and northwestern Desoto counties. The Manatee warning was cancelled at 5:50 p.m.

The warnings for Hardee and Desoto continue until 6 p.m.

At 5:31 p.m., Weather Service meteorologists detected a tornado near Myakka City moving east at 35 mph. The tornado will be about seven miles south of Myakka Head by 5:40 p.m.

All of the Tampa Bay region remains under a severe thunderstorm watch until 11 p.m.
