Conditions at animal sanctuary appalling

February 12, 2014

After reading the article on the front page of Monday's Bradenton Herald I felt compelled to respond. I was present on the day of the raid on Napier's Log Cabin Horse and Animal Sanctuary, called to help by one of the rescue groups that I volunteer for. I immediately jumped in my car to go and help in any way I could.

Let me say I was in no way prepared to witness what I saw when I arrived. I have been involved with rescue work for many years with both dogs and cats and pigs, and I have never seen anything like this place in all my days.

It was a nightmare. Hell on earth. It in no way got like this in three months, six months or even in a year. The conditions these animals were living in was beyond description. It was heartbreaking and gut wrenching to say the least.

The point I want to get across is that I will never believe that any inspections were ever done at this place because if they were it would have been shut down immediately if not sooner; and, if there were any inspections done then the individuals that inspected the property should be terminated immediately!

This kind of neglect and abuse cannot and should not be tolerated. These living, breathing, feeling souls deserve far better and so does our county. In my opinion this should never be allowed to happen again.

Thank goodness for the many rescue groups and organizations that stepped up to the plate to rescue these innocent souls and begin the arduous task of bringing them back to health and into caring loving homes. Only then will this nightmare story have a happy and just ending.
