Hunter McGarry stroked a two-run single in the bottom of the eighth inning to lead the Bradenton Christian Panthers to a 7-6 victory over the visiting Bayshore Bruins in the season opener for both prep baseball teams.

Wade Carter led the Panthers at the plate, going 2-for-4 with a double, home run, three RBIs and three runs scored.

Tyler Lyke and David Hinkel added two hits apiece for the Panthers.

Leading the offense for the Bruins was Derek Paparella, who went 4-for-4 with two runs scored.

SAINT STEPHEN'S 13, MANATEE HEAT 5 --The Falcons won the season and home opener behind the hitting of Nick Rodhouse (2-for-5, double); Parker Shanahan (2-for-4); and Keith Dunkelberger (2-for-3). Falcons pitcher Justin Gregorious picked up the win with four innings of no-run ball and seven strikeouts. He gave up two hits and five walks. Teammate Sam O'Dell had five strikeouts in his two innings.

Juco baseball

SCF 12, CCF 2 -- The No. 1-ranked State College of Florida Manatees drubbed the visiting College of Central Florida Patriots, improving to 5-0 for the season.

Leading the offensive attack for SCF were Trevor Beeman (3-for-4, double, five RBIs); Scott Williams (2-for-5, home run); Ryan Valdes (3-for-4, double, triple, two RBIs); and Danny Lee (2-for-4, RBI).

Starting pitcher Reggie McClain earned the victory in six innings of work, fanning three and scattering three hits. Devin Carr, Tyler Souris and Brook Norton each pitched a hitless inning in relief.
