1 dead in crash in Parrish; wrong-way crash kills at least 5 in Tampa

MANATEE -- One person was killed in a single-car crash early Sunday in Parrish, according to Florida Highway Patrol.

And in Tampa, at least five people are dead after a wrong-way crash on Interstate 275 in Tampa. All northbound lanes of the highway are closed near Busch Boulevard, authorities said.

The crash happened about 2:14 a.m. just north of Busch Boulevard and was caused by a Ford Expedition traveling south in the northbound lanes of I-275, according to Tampa Fire Rescue.

The crash in Parrish, on U.S. 301 at 69th Street East, happened about 1:39 a.m., according to the FHP website.

Other details were not immediately available.
