Recap: UC Riverside vs. Long Beach State

Riverside, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Tyler Lamb netted 23 points to lead the Long Beach State 49ers to an 88-76 victory over the UC Riverside Highlanders in Big West Conference play at SRC Arena.

A.J. Spencer scored 17 points and dished out five assists for Long Beach State (10-13, 6-3 Big West). Travis Hammonds netted 13 points and pulled down six rebounds, while Branford Jones tallied 11 points. The 49ers have won five of their last six games.

Taylor Johns notched a double-double with 20 points and 11 rebounds for UC Riverside (8-15, 3-6). Sam Finley chipped in 17 points off the bench, and Chris Patton scored 12. The Highlanders have lost two of their last three.

Both teams were hot in the first half. Long Beach State connected on 56.4 percent of its field goal tries in the frame, including 9-of-13 from 3-point range, and took a 58-48 lead into the intermission. UC Riverside hit 52.6 percent of its shots in the half.

The Highlanders outshout the 49ers in the second period, hitting 45.8 percent of their shots to LBSU's 38.5 percent. The 49ers still outscored Riverside in the half, 30-28, thanks to 0-of-4 3-point shooting by the Highlanders.

Long Beach State outscored UC Riverside from 3-point distance in the contest, 36-10. The Highlanders won the battle in points in the paint, 44-30.
