Seven Manatee wrestlers advanced to the semifinals of the Class 3A-Region 2 tournament Friday night at Kissimmee Osceola and stand one victory from a trip to state.

Marshall Craig (106 pounds), Caleb Rudisill (113), Tyrek Hoyte (128), Alex Ginn (145), Dakoda Dossey (152), Jesse Fulk (160) and Johnny Baldwin (170) will all be in action when the semifinals begin at 9:30 a.m. Saturday.

Emilio Gonazalez (195) is still alive in the consolation bracket.

Manatee has 66 points and is tied for third with North Port.

Next week's state tournament is in Lakeland.

CLASS 2A-REGION 3 -- Four Lakewood Ranch wrestlers and three Palmetto wrestlers have advanced to the semifinals at Punta Gorda Charlotte and will battle for a trip to state Saturday.

Mustangs Hunter Reed (106 pounds), Dylan Cameron (120), Tim Dwyer (132) and Jared Dipsiner (132) each won their first two matches. Dwyer finished fourth in the district tournament and upset a district champion in his first match of the region. Lakewood Ranch's Ty McLeod remains alive in the consolation bracket.

For the Tigers, Anthony Viscomi (126), Chase Washington (145) and Robert McLachlan (195) advanced to the semifinals. Teammates Aaron McDaniel (106), Tyler Montague (120), Lionel Barboza (152) and James Banks (220) remain in contention.

Palmetto stand fifth in the team standings, while Lakewood Ranch is fifth.

CLASS 1A-REGION 3 -- Southeast is in second place, trailing only Dunedin by nine points, after the first day of the two-day tournament at Tampa Berkeley Prep.

Seminoles moving on to the semifinals are Joey Fazio (132 pounds), Ricky Almodovar (160), Stephen Kelle (170), Gage Takacs (220) and his brother, Kane Takacs, in the heavyweight class.

Other results from the Berkeley Prep region were unavailable at press time.

Softball

PALMETTO 13, ARCADIA DESOTO 2 (5) -- Kendall Vedder went 3-for-3 and drove in four runs to carry the Tigers to a run-rule victory over the host Bulldogs.

Emilie Wingate, Sabria Bruton and Auria Mounts added two hits apiece for Palmetto (2-0). Kyria Holcomb drove in a pair of runs.

Samantha Urbina struck out eight and allowed three hits to get the win for the Tigers.

• JV: The Tigers improved to 2-1 with a 7-2 victory over DeSoto. Kate Flinn had three hits, Jazmin Reyes had three RBIs, and Julia Pritchard and Clarie Strickland added two hits apiece. Breana Fox got the win on the mound

Baseball

BAYSHORE 4, BOOKER 0 -- Michael Rupp, Julian Valdivia and Jared Paparella combined on a three-hit shutout as the visiting Bruins improved to 1-1 in preseason action.

Jared Paparella hit an RBI double and walked twice, and Derek Paparella doubled.
