Round of ammo strikes Myakka City home

HERALD STAFF REPORTFebruary 7, 2014

MYAKKA CITY -- Someone fired a round of ammunition that struck the outside of a man's home, the Manatee County Sheriff's Office reports.

The round struck the east wall of a residence in the 9900 block of Wauchula Road sometime between Jan. 25 and Friday, according to a sheriff's report.

The homeowner was walking around his home Friday when he discovered the round in the wall, about 2½ feet from the ground and 4 feet from the north wall, and called the sheriff's office.

The round hadn't penetrated into the living area of the home, authorities said.

The man told deputies he had heard "random gun shots in the area over the past several weeks" but didn't hear anything striking his home, according to the report.

It wasn't clear when the incident happened or if anyone was at home when it occurred, deputies said.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 866-634-8477.
